There has always been societal classes (as well as financial classes) in every society since the first human society was formed.
In the days of Kings and Monarchs. It was impossible for someone who was at the bottom of society to rise to the top as your heritage and lineage was the primary criteria to accepted at the top.
Your pedigree determined your income, so if you where born into a family without noble blood you are automatically disqualified. Your only hope was to marry into nobility or earn your way into nobility by building a record of being exceptional on the field of battle and rising in ranks in the army until you become a famous leader that has saved his country a number of times then you may or may not be given a position/ title at court by the King.
Outside of that, if you where born to parents in the poor classes of society you remained there.
There was no luxury industry and the rich then where smart so there where no rich people spending fortunes on all the overpriced nonsense that rich people waste their money on today, so the wealth of every rich person back then generally increased (except for those who became addicted to gambling).
However when the stock market was created it gave the poor and those at the bottom of the ladder in society the opportunity and ability to become co – owners in the very businesses of the super wealthy that made the super wealthy rich.
Democracy and the fall of Monarchy broke down the wall of family lineage that divided the classes in society, whereas The Stock Market broke down the walls of separation between the financial classes in society.
Now a shoe cleaner can be a co – owner of the very business that is making a fellow who as in the highest financial class rich, which is access that those at the bottom of the ladder didn’t have before.
Now as those at the top of the ladder make money, those at the bottom of the ladder make money as well.
